This project was to convert "Machiya", a Japanese traditional wooden townhouse, in the centre of Kyoto, into a small shop. The original wooden frames were reinforced with steel frames because the original building was dilapidated. I focused on the way accommodating necessary functions of a beauty cosmetic shop within the space limitations of the original "Machiya".
Continue readingReflection to the bathrooms of Lotus Flowers… Lotus bathroom has been implemented by taking inspiration from the shape of the Lotus flower’s leaves Zhou Dunyi who teaches Confucius’s philosophy said "I like the Lotus flower since it grows in the mud and never gets dirty," in his discourse. Lotus leaves, are dirt repeller as stated herein. Leaf structure of the Lotus flower has been imitated in the production of the series

Continue readingThe Café is where visitors feel the coexistence with oceans. Huge egg shaped structure placed within middle of space is simultaneously functioning as cashier and coffee supply. Iconic appearance of the booth is inspired by dark and dull looking coffee bean. Two big openings on top-front of both sides of “big bean” serve as good source of ventilation and natural light. Café provided long table like bunch of octopuses and bubbles altogether. The seemingly randomly hanging chandeliers resemble of fishes’ view to water surface, shiny ripples absorb cozy sunlight from the wide white sky.
